Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that consists of a series of almost invisible, transparent plates, can be removed and aims to align teeth using comfortable aligning plates. What is Invisalign? How is it performed?

A detailed examination is required to clarify whether a person with crooked teeth is a good candidate for Invisalign or not. However, we can express that the procedure is an option for all people with crooked teeth in the age range of 8 years to 70 years, after dentist approves the procedure.

Invisalign is started, after dental measurements obtained with 3-dimensional scan are digitally transferred to computer by dentist. Images of teeth are moved using a software and alignment is digitally corrected to get a picture of their final form; transplant plates are designed to ensure this outcome and Invisalign plates are manufactured by 3-dimensional printers.

These plates create movements in teeth at pre-determined ranges. Therefore, special forces are applied on teeth in replacement of each plate, as each new plate will ensure above mentioned mobility in teeth and thus, teeth are moved and alignment is corrected in each time. Considering the fact that Invisalign plates are removable dental materials, patients should use these plates for 20 to 22 hours per day for high efficiency. Since plates start applying targeted forces within several days after they are adapted to teeth, teeth are transpositioned. When a plate expires (the duration varies from 1 week to 10 days depending on decision of dentist), the plates that will be used in next stage of the treatment are adapted and thus, teeth are gradually aligned. Plate replacement continues until teeth are completely aligned. Duration of treatment varies depending on severity of crooked teeth and the mobility provided by plates.

It is a far comfortable treatment modality in comparison to conventional braces.
